Work Experience // Thomas Balaam-Reed
Hello! My name is Thomas and I currently study maths, computing, and graphics at Wyke Sixth Form College. I have just completed a week of work experience with the StrawberryToo team working on some exciting graphic design briefs.
At the start of the week, I created a series of social media graphics for a local brand. I used the knowledge I already had, as well as some extra inspiration and hints and tips to create the pieces of work that could be used on Facebook. This brief was a good warm up task before I moved onto more challenging briefs later in the week with the chance to expand my Adobe Illustrator skills along the way. Throughout this task, I had loads of chances to get to know the team, what their roles are and what they are working on at the minute, which was an insight I really enjoyed! 🙂
Later in the week, I started a bigger design brief, creating a brand image for a sushi restaurant brand. I created a name and then designed the logo, menu and promo materials, taking inspiration from existing sushi brands and design styles I liked. 🙂
The StrawberryToo team had so many great resources that I could make use of, and throughout the project, they were a massive support with all my questions! They were always giving me their opinions on my work in progress, which I found to be a massive confidence boost.
I originally wanted to do work experience with StrawberryToo to grow my creativity and communication skills while seeing what working in an agency environment was like, but also because I really like the idea of working for StrawberryToo in the future. I have achieved so much more out of this week than I thought I would have – I’ve had an amazing time and I would recommend it to anyone in my position.
I will leave as a better aspiring designer because of the team’s support! I also know that my college work will improve as I will be able to apply what I learnt here to my coursework and my confidence about my own work is a lot higher too. 🙂
The team made me feel very welcome and I got along with everyone so well; I felt like part of the team.
Thank you so much for the opportunity to show you what I can do, StrawberryToo!
